Intercon has participated in the international architecture competition that had as its object the Abu Dhabi Flamingo Visitor Center

We see a flamboyance of flamingos huddled together in the distance. As we approach them, they get bigger and bigger eventually converting into a building offering shelter to the visitors. The shape of the building mimics the pink waves of a flamboyance of flamingos that flock to the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve, where parts of the building float on a water body as do the birds during their stopovers from their migration routes.

The landscape surrounding the building is inspired by the organic natural contour of Al Wathba Wetland Reserve’s landscape, bringing the natural lines of the site into the project area, hence blending the building into its surroundings and making it disappear to the visiting birds so as to not alter their routine, achieving a juxtaposition between the natural and the man-made parts.
